In case you have always asked yourself who the lady might be that plays the Cello so beautifully for Antony & The Johnsons, you should pay attention now. This lady is Julia Kent, a born Canadian living in New York. Over the past years she has played for artists such as Devendra Banhart and Rufus Wainwright. She has composed several film scores, as well as music for dance and theatre performances and she also released three solo albums. The latest one is called “Character” and came out in March. It sees Kent combine looped and layered cello arrangements, electronic elements and field recordings from the world surrounding her. The result is astonishing, especially when Kent plays her songs live. Not only because she perfected commanding her instrument, creating the most unusual sounds with it, but also because her music sounds so at ease.
