Linda Perry emerged from the wreckage of her former band 4 Non Blondes to become one of the music industry’s most in-demand songwriters, creating a string of international hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera, Pink and Gwen Stefani.
The successful switch from artist in her own right to a writer for others seemed to come about almost as suddenly as the speed at which the Nineties rock group she once led capitulated. Having soared to the heights of the global smash “What’s Up?”, which Perry wrote, and the debut album Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, 4 Non Blondes struggled to complete a follow-up LP and their leader quit in pursuit of a solo career.
Although critically well-received following its 1996 release, Perry’s first solo set In Flight was unable to reach the commercial heights of 4 Non Blondes, nor for that matter did a second album After Hours.
