Darkwave from Zurich, performed by a frail figure in a nosedive over the desolate landscape of Central Europe. Angels sing in the clouds, soon falling to the ground like raindrops. Blanche Biau gathers the outpourings of a gloomy sky and condenses them into surreal synth revelations such as the debut album ‘Maraudé’ (2021), which, without much PR fanfare, has blossomed in just a few years into a hidden gem of the wave genre – not only in Switzerland, but across Europe. Vocals like wistful eulogies at the end of a long corridor, electronic organs and sharp-tongued drum machines in the background, melodies with spiritual qualities blend here into a soundtrack for dark times. However, Blanche Biau’s music does not feel like an amplifier of the tragic, but more like a balm for tormented souls. There are certainly enough of those to go round. The DIY artist demonstrated her awareness of this fact last year with her second album ‘Heartcore’ (2025), as well as her ability to arrange dreamy yet minimalist productions in ever-changing shades of grey.
