Jan Metternich is not the type to do half measures. When he sets his mind to something, he goes all the way. While still at school, hardly anyone in his home town of Mönchengladbach took this musician’s ambitions seriously. But over the years, through the right level of self-confidence and perseverance, Jan has proved himself capable of taking the opinions of others seriously. He’s listened to Ed Sheeran and Future, delved deep into the indie scene alongside contemporary hip-hop and stayed on the ball. He produced songs and his own music videos on his mobile phone and recording device, taught himself mixing and mastering with Garage Band and later Logic Pro. Ironically, the single “Dead End” (2021) was no such thing, instead launching a career on the international stage. The self-taught musician subsequently raked in millions of streams with “i’m alright” (2022) and “One More Time” (2023), attracting production requests and turning heads in the music business way beyond the confines of his hometown. Last year saw the release of his studio debut “Broken Symphonies” (2024), impressive proof that Jan Metternich is here to stay.
