Laura Lee & The Jettes
First becoming known as one-half of the Berlin indie duo Gurr, Laura Lee launched her own musical vision with her band, The Jettes, in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic. In the frequency range between grunge and late-90s indie rock, she writes songs for loving and leaving, for the pain of the end and the euphoria of new beginnings. Her debut album, ‘Wasteland’ (2021), added to this stylistically confident sound signature with enjoyable jangle pop and the charm of a songwriter who knows exactly how to sound catchy and non-conformist at the same time. After a lengthy maternity leave, Laura Lee is now back with album number two, which already carries the thematic focus in its title. ‘Tough Love Paradigm’ (2025) tells of the pitfalls of hormonal highs and the lessons that the need for connection and togetherness can often teach in unexpected ways. With appearances on BBC 6 and NPR, at the SXSW Festival and here in Germany, she has impressively demonstrated that the musical story of Dinosaur Jr. and Courtney Barnett, of The Breeders and Stereolab is far from over. On the contrary: Laura Lee & The Jettes manage to translate the sound of the past into the present without any problems while also sounding totally unique at the same time.
