As one half of duo Blood Red Shoes, Laura-Mary Carter fuelled the garage rock revival in London during the 2010s. In the meantime, she became the icon of a new generation of emancipated frontwomen when it comes to groove-driven guitar music. She played all over the world, relishing the touring life and gaining experience. In 2021, she translated her distinctive string playing and her dreamy, sometimes rapt vocals into a contemplative sound for the first time with her solo EP “Town Called Nothing”, which drew immediate acclaim from the international music press. As many find, the leap from playing in a globally successful band to an independent solo project wasn’t easy for Carter. But the singer went all-in, played most of the instruments, wrote all the songs and from that point on turned her vision into reality on all artistic levels with singles such as ‘Blue Moon’ (2023). Her most recent material, “777” and “Elvis Widow” (2025), continues along this path, but also adds a much denser atmosphere to her sound that would have been at home on any David Lynch film soundtrack.
