To say that Lyhre has a certain aversion to being compartmentalised is a slight understatement. The Berlin-based singer-songwriter prefers to rip out the entire infrastructure and reassemble it in new creative forms. Her debut EP “Sad Cyborg” (2020) already showed that her understanding of pop pays scant regard to conventions or contemporary trends. In fact, Lyhre’s sound is influenced partly by her classical piano and vocal training, her work for the Volksbühne Berlin theatre and the Dresden State Theatre. It also draws on the crossover between digital sound synthesis and analogue experiments, futuristic electropop and cinematic film music, post-punk and industrial. Hard to pin down, but always recognisable, the multi-instrumentalist and composer leaves her mark on the local music landscape and shows, together with artists such as Katja Gaudard or Pat To Yan, that she can brilliantly implement projects that span all the disciplines. With new material such as her single “Iphigeniacore” (2025), she’s coming to us for the first time this year.
