NASTYJOE
Black lights and blaring sound, sweet nostalgia and a bitter swan song: Nastyjoe bring together the seemingly contradictory and span the vast spectrum from the 1980s to the present day. On their debut EP, “Deep Side Of Happiness” (2022), the Bordeaux-based quartet achieve a rousing fusion of catchy indie rock, noisy passages, and the next post-punk revival, soaring through dimly lit, spine-tingling melodies with delays and pedals. As yet largely unknown outside France and even there considered more of an insider tip, Nastyjoe often evoke distant memories of The Cure and Blur with a wink – best of all when they’re in the studio together. The next moment, however, Fontaines D.C. or Interpol also emerge as references amidst crashing drums and meandering riffs that you simply can’t get out of your head. And by then, you’re already hooked. On this year’s debut album, “The House” (2026), the musicians blend long-matured songwriting with unbridled energy – the sort we’ve only ever seen in this form from bands at the start of a great career. Live, they’re an absolutely unforgettable experience – right now.
