Peki Momés
Like a broadcast from a sun-drenched parallel dimension, Peki Momés’ tunes shimmer over the soul and instantly induce a state of unclouded zen. Nostalgia and memories condense into sepia, sometimes barely distinguishable from half-forgotten dreams. Amidst them, fluid Anatolian rock blends with 80s art pop, library music with psychedelic soul, whilst Afrofunk and boogie grooves find their complement in childishly playful vocals and effects. Fully realised, without a doubt, without holding her breath, as if all this were the only logical fusion of contemporary music from Germany’s Turkish diaspora. Yet Peki Momés has not completed a picture-perfect conservatoire education, nor does she have a major label or brand management behind her. She came to making music more by chance, as she herself says – and perhaps that is precisely why she sounds like nothing and no one before her. Her brilliant debut album “Peki Momés” (2025) was released last year on the small but excellent Hamburg-based funk label Mocambo and stands as a remarkable example to the ears of no fewer than those who believe that the boldest, most interesting and most idiosyncratic music is being created more than ever outside the major conglomerates and their distribution platforms. Truth? Lie? Just let her win you over live.
