Femizide Stoppen
Content warning: This exhibition deals with femicide and gender-based violence. The content may be distressing.
This exhibition is based on the work of the Instagram account Femizide stoppen (Stop Femicide). The founders, who document femicide across Germany, themselves lost their mutual friend Derya and Derya's son Kian to femicide. With their account, they draw attention to deadly violence against women and girls and create an important space for visibility, grief and anger.
In Germany, on average, a woman is killed by her (ex) partner every two days. In addition, there are numerous other killings of women committed for misogynistic motives – such as the murder of mothers by their sons. Femi(ni)cide is based on patriarchal structures, male possessiveness and dominance, the devaluation of femininity, economic dependencies and insufficient protection for women affected by violence.
This exhibition aims to raise awareness and make the voices of those who are committed to fighting patriarchal violence heard.
