Not every idea transforms a place. This one does.

YUNOMI premieres at Reeperbahn Festival: a mobile water purification system that shows how infrastructure can be more than a means of supply – it can create connection. Here, access to clean drinking water becomes a starting point for culture, encounters and new possibilities. Throughout the festival, YUNOMI takes on a new form every day through music, secret acts, performance and live painting. The artistic programme kicks off on Wednesday with live paintings by Moritz Adam Schmitt and Joséphine Sagna, who will continue to develop their work on the container throughout the festival. On 17 September, award-winning dancer, choreographer and creative director Connie Kau will bring the project to life with a performance as part of the official opening, inviting the audience to experience transformation as something that can be felt and expressed through the body. The evening opens with a musical performance by Nicole Hadfield. The South African-German singer and performer is known for her powerful soul voice and charismatic stage presence. As the lead vocalist of SISTERS, she brings together music, movement and storytelling to create moments of connection and collective experience. The opening evening will be hosted by Onejiru Arfmann.

But YUNOMI’s story does not end in Hamburg. After the festival, the project will travel on to Kibera, Nairobi, where it will become a permanent source of clean water and part of a creative hub run by FUTURE FEMALE AFRICA and Anno’s One Fine Day at the Anno’s One Fine Day Art Centre.

YUNOMI is a partnership initiative by FUTURE FEMALE AFRICA, Viva con Agua, the Loni und Josef Grünbeck-Stiftung (“Loni and Josef Grünbeck Foundation”), and Anno’s One Fine Day – with Jan Delay serving as YUNOMI Ambassador.
