The Sparks Brothers

Film / Documentary / United Kingdom, United States of America

German premiere

Sparks have been around since the time of the Beatles – however, the L.A. based project under the aegis of Ron and Russell Mael has never really received their due applauds. In well over half a century, they have lit up all facets of international music genres, including art, chamber pop, prog, electro, glam – you name it. From techno and classical crossovers to orchestra and opera, they have mastered them all brilliantly since the 1990s. Director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho, Shaun of The Dead) dedicates a cinematic tribute to Sparks, taking the audience through the work of the band, but also their personal backgrounds. In this homage, the Mael brothers have their say, along with some of the musicians they have influenced, such as Beck, Flea and Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) and renowned producers such as Giorgio Moroder and Tony Visconti. A must-see for all - not just fans!
