Music Indie, Pop Vienna, Austria

For more than a decade, Martin Eberle (trumpet), Benny Omerzell (piano), Manu Mayr (bass) and Lukas König (drums) have been playing up a storm on the Vienna jazz scene under the name Kompost 3. Their specialty: playful improv sessions that appear to use classic jazz instruments but keep pushing the genre's boundaries through the brilliant use of synths and effects.

The four-piece joined forces with singer Mira Lu Kovacs in 2017 to form 5K HD and bridge the gaps between pop, trip hop and nu jazz. Kovacs' crystal-clear vocals often accentuate electronic arrangements of flailing beats and complex bass and trumpet sounds. Unlike many projects with a similar line-up, 5K HD don't take their cues from the genre greats, instead creating a sound that is fresh and unconventional in the best possible way. High time to hear them in action at the Reeperbahn Festival.
