Bear’s Den: Fragments
in collaboration with Paul Frith

To attend this Elbphilharmonie concert, reservations must be made in advance.

Sometimes success runs at light speed. When Bear's Den's members appeared on stage supporting Mumford & Sons at London's O2-Arena, for sure they would have nipped each other's arms asking: “Is this really happening?“ But this concert in front of 20.000 people had only been the first highlight of the band from London. With “Islands“ (2014) and “Red Earth & Pouring Rain“ (2016) Bear's Den brought out two excellent works. Andrew Davie and Kevin Jones have proven to be among Great Britain's finest folk bands. Their sound is developed around not only acoustic guitar and banjo but also crunchy electric guitars and of course Andrew Davie's touchingly expressive voice, all adding a broad spectrum of light and shade across their released work. For instance “Isaac“ from their first album is a haunting love song, the current “Dew On The Vine“ turns out to be a thrilling track with a grooving beat. Bear’s Den commands the whole range from exquisite songwriting to its equally stunning arrangement in the realm of folk rock.

This September Bear’s Den return for a very special and limited run of shows, their only performances for 2018. Premiering at Reeperbahn Festival 2018 and entitled “Fragments”, this special evening of music will feature Bear’s Den, alongside a ten piece string ensemble and concert pianist. Created in collaboration with British composer, Paul Frith (previous work includes Radiohead and The xx) the show will explore and reimagine songs from Bear’s Den albums “Islands” and “Red Earth & Pouring Rain”.

This project is supported by the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
