Black Orchid Empire

Music / Rock / London, United Kingdom

A distinct rock sound is quite difficult to achieve these days - too many things have been tried, too many things have failed. The fact that Black Orchid Empire, with only three albums, still sound like hardly anyone else in the field of sophisticated guitar music at the moment, is something not only their fans value them highly for. Opening spots for Biffy Clyro, Editors and Skunk Anansie, as well as sold-out venues in Europe show that the Americans' reputation as excellent musicians has long preceded them. They have most recently shown the qualities of their precisely explosive sound on their futuristic concept album "Semaphore" from 2020, which transfers epic harmonic progressions into extremely compact song writing with a dystopian storyline while remaining incredibly catchy. The constant comparisons they draw to the big names of their profession definitely isn’t something these guys have to shy away from, quite the opposite: Black Orchid Empire still sound so fresh and muscular a decade after their founding that even premature praises now seems long overdue.
