Music / Indie, Pop / Netherlands

Presented by: Music Moves Europe Awards, Dutch Music Export

With "Music By Blanks", Simon de Wit launched one of the most successful YouTube channels for imaginative and unconditionally positive DIY pop during the 2010s, which deserves the label "especially indie" but doesn't need it. With his "Style Swap" series, for which he reworks hits in new genre garb, as well as with his own composed and recorded material, the cosmopolitan songwriter celebrates unexpected success. Over the years, millions and millions of fans watch his videos, while one single after another goes straight to the top. The long-awaited debut album "Nothing Lasts Forever And That's OK" appears at the end of last year and is influenced by 80s pop as well as Jon Bellion or Tame Impala. Seemingly effortlessly, the young multi-talent writes one summery feel-good hit after another and brings with him everything a modern indie star needs to stay true to himself in the fast-moving music biz of the modern age. So far, he has succeeded brilliantly as Blanks.
