Brooke Combe

Music / Pop, R'n'B/Soul / Edinburgh, United Kingdom

These are good times for independent musicians who won’t or can’t spend copious amounts of money on rental studios or expensive equipment. A guitar, a camera and a bit of courage might just be all you need to be catapulted from your bedroom straight into the eyes of the public these days. With her wonderfully soulful cover of the Arctic Monkey song “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?”, Brooke Combes has done just that: hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and Twitter saw the young singer songwriter doing a live recording of her debut single “Are You with Me?” at Parr Studios with James Skelly (The Corals) and Charlie Salt (Blossoms) – a product of last year’s lockdown summer, that nevertheless radiates a pure lust for life. Combe underlines this with her guitar licks and the soul in her voice, over which she intuitively intones lyrics full of courage and self-confidence. Her music has character, pop appeal and an unerring nose for rhythm. No wonder that the Arctic Monkeys are contemplating taking her on tour. But first, she’s coming to play for us this September.
