Dani Larkin

Music / Folk, Singer-Songwriter / Ireland

Inspired by the legends and fairy tales of Ireland under whose influence she grew up, Dani Larkin is a songwriter with a sharp eye for tradition and a talent for transposing these traditions to new contexts. On the one hand, this applies to the reduced arrangements and melodies which she loses herself in, on the other, it applies also to the impetus of her music, through which she tells stories and myths of Celtic folklore, whose valuable lessons from the past remain relevant to the present day. Often, she needs nothing more than her voice and guitar, sometimes a banjo. Other times she’ll fittingly be accompanied by a whole orchestra – her music permeates the audience in small and grand contexts alike and has caused a stir way past the borders of Ireland. Whether on BBC’s Radio 2 or Folk Radio UK, at the RTE Folk Awards or at a sold-out London Palladium Theatre: Dani Larkin is busy rewriting Ireland’s musical history and has set a monumental landmark for the above, and for herself, with her debut album “Notes For A Maiden Warrior”.
