Kuami Eugene

Music / Funk, Hip-Hop/Rap, Global / Ghana

Kuami Eugene is also a highlight in contemporary highlife, this style of music from Ghana that has been celebrating revivals time and again for decades. And in its latest manifestations it oscillates between West African rhythms, funk, synthpop and disco influences. Eugene is one of the genre’s youngest generation, alongside KiDi and several other artists. He’s already won countless awards in his home country for songs such as “Wish Me Well” and “Open Gate”, and also promoted his debut album “Rockstar” (2019) into the country charts with effortless charm. Eugene combines sweaty Afrobeats, bundles of pop appeal, calypso vibes and autotune vocals to create a sound that ushers summer into every venue and sends dance fans and wall-huggers alike into raptures. Eugene was even crowned king by highlife legend Dan Amakye Dede at the 21st Vodafone Music Awards in Accra, which came as a surprise even for the self-confident up-and-coming artist.
