Mavi Phoenix

Music / Hip-Hop/Rap, Pop / Austria

From eleven-year-old MTV fan to self-made pop phenomenon with Austrian influences? From young girl to brave transgender man? Over two dozen singles and EPs to a first album release? Marlon Nader aka Mavi Phoenix has overcome more upheavals by mid-twenty than most of us would have had to deal with in a lifetime. His music and the unconditional self-confidence with which he portrays it attest to this. He squeezes his voice through a myriad of surreal vocoder effects, accentuates it with lo-fi pop and contemporary R&B elements while bringing the whole thing to a boil in a playful way, without spilling the slightest bit. So, unsurprisingly, big names like Bilderbuch, Milky Chance or Leftboy producer Simon Herzog have worked with this exceptional talent. Even the feature pages in the USA have boasted nothing but praise for Phoenix, whose name was actually inspired by the actor River Phoenix who died far too young – Mavi sees this a metaphor for a new beginning. And boy, do we need one.
