Paula Hartmann

Music / Pop / Hamburg, Germany

Poetry is when a couple of words say more than a whole book. Paula Hartmann had a knack for this even before kick-starting her music career. On songs like "Truman Show Boot" or the Casper feature "Kein Happy End", the singer and actress knows exactly how to speak from the soul for Generation Z without sounding pompous. As a youth, she had worked as an actress for various German film and series productions giving her ample opportunity to train her vocal expressiveness. Now, with her debut album "Nie verliebt" (2022), she has released a collection of urban fairy tale songs that explore lust and love, but also loss and repression – while trying to make sense of these nonsensical times. Between pop and hip-hop, R'n'B and trap, Paula captures the musical equivalent of this bittersweet attitude to life which we all find ourselves in from time to time. No other German artist has managed to do this as eloquently as she has in a long time.
