Growing up, it was the great women of soul music—Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone—that had the greatest influence on Tamzene. Aged eight, she started playing violin; at 14, she picked up the guitar, but also sat down at a piano now and then to make her ideas a musical reality. Her early inspirations were later joined by Alicia Keys, Solange, and Paloma Faith, but Tamzene is a vocalist and songwriter who might as well be mentioned in the same breath as these ladies.

Her songs are cleverly arranged, capable of transporting brilliant joy ("Enough For Me") but also touching melancholy, taken straight from her own soul ("Last Song"). Though the multi-instrumentalist has only released a handful of songs, it's obvious that this outstanding talent is in the early stages of an impressive career.
