Yunè Pinku

Music / Electronic/DJ / United Kingdom

In truth, Yunè Pinku was never that keen on electronic music. As a child, she was forever exposed to her mother’s penchant for trance and techno, for hours on end, never finding a way into it. Little Yunè just wanted to listen to Billy Joel or Madonna. But as she grew up, she realised that electronic soundscapes can be created just as you want them, and thus function in ways that trump all conventions. So, one thing led to another, and even before the Malaysian-Irish DIY artist began dropping her own material, she compiled a guest mix for Joy Orbison’s BBC Radio 1 residency last summer and scored an unexpected hit, racking up millions of streams with the Logic1000 collaboration “What You Like”. She recently released her accomplished debut EP “Bluff”, where she fuses progressive breaks, 2-step and house. A bit of EDM, a touch of IDM, but in between Yunè’s dreamy vocals – all groovy and boasting bouncy production. An unforced, vital, fresh sound that suits dancing in the rain as well as a relaxing evening by the water.
