Corona: Update on Reeperbahn Festival 2020

Bans on gatherings, concert and festival cancellations, tour postponements: The effects of the Corona pandemic pose existential problems for the creative industries, the live entertainment sector and especially for young bands and artists and venues, all of which are indispensable for Reeperbahn Festival. The prospect of a return to regular operations is, despite the current relaxation of restrictions, still a long way off.

Understandably, many of you are probably asking the following question: What about Reeperbahn Festival 2020?

We too have been struggling intensively with this question over past few weeks. There are definitely no easy answers in these turbulent times. Many things are unclear and unpredictable at the moment and will stay so for a while.

Nevertheless, we feel it is important to give you an insight into how we are currently trying to plan Reeperbahn Festival 2020.

We are currently working intensively and in coordination with the responsible authorities on a scenario that will allow the event to take place in September in compliance with all distancing and hygiene regulations, while ensuring the safety of visitors, partners, performing artists and staff at all times. Reeperbahn Festival is currently developing individual implementation concepts with all participating venues, as well as planning for special procedures and scenarios.

Unfortunately, another aspect is also clear: the usual strong representation of international artists will not be possible at Reeperbahn Festival 2020, and we will instead have to turn our focus to national and European acts.

We want to attempt a four-day trial run for the return to a new normality with all due care and caution. For this year's implementation we strongly rely on the trust and caution of all of us.

Stay safe!
Your Reeperbahn Festival Team
