Amistat
Being the sons of Czech-Australian parents, Jan and Josef Prasil travelled around quite a bit even as children, spending their younger years first in Germany, then in Italy, and after finishing school in Melbourne. While Down Under, they quickly developed a burning desire to make music, partly because the opportunities for indie artists there are much greater than in Europe in many respects. While first learning the ropes of the busking scene, the pair frequently heard people say, “Why don’t you go into music?,” so at a certain point, Amistat was the logical next step. It didn’t take long for the songwriting duo to attract major attention beyond the streets. When they opened shows for Tash Sultana and Sheppard, the pair were suddenly talked about everywhere before their debut album “Parley” (2016) was released shortly afterwards. A celebration of warm folk poetry, delicately accompanied by guitar, piano and percussion, characterised by the blue skies of summer, but also by the cool melancholy of autumnal afternoons. The next few years saw dozens of EPs and singles follow, such as “Ready Now” (2022) and “Seasons” (2023), amassing tens of millions of streams on major platforms and thrilling audiences at the Reeperbahn Festival. Now, after more than half a decade, they’re finally returning to us here in Hamburg – with fresh energy and new material.
