Unexpected twists and turns, eclectic variations on hardcore and noise rock, time signatures straight out of a Sudoku puzzle: Concrete Vehicles have everything it takes to become a bloody cult band. Strictly speaking, within just one year, the seven-piece project has managed to send the entire Vancouver underground scene into a state of sheer ecstasy. Experimental rock and post-punk, rhythmically complex jazz-rock and the delightful dissolution of classic song structures are all brought together on the debut album ‘Station On The Hill’ (2025), creating the conditions for a cathartic borderline experience that divides life into before and after. In the UK, at any rate, there is no longer any doubt about it. Sure, the influences ranging from Black Midi to Black Country, New Road and the Windmill scene are virtually self-evident. But Concrete Vehicles have grasped that this is not about yet another post-punk revival, but rather the almost Zappa-esque deconstruction of hardcore, fusion and guitar music as a whole. A new sense of drama and a fresh edge are present in every song here. Every stylistic break is a resounding triumph; every live show is already legendary. Anyone who misses this has only themselves to blame.
