Dea Matrona
Set against a backdrop of smoky bars and Celtic mythology, Dea Matrona transform modern rock music into a feast for the senses that invites you to dance and revel in equal measure. Founded in Belfast in 2018, Orláith Forsythe and Mollie McGinn have – within just a few years – become a force to be reckoned with on the Irish rock scene, playing in small pubs and at weddings, gaining experience in live settings, and honing their sound. And all that is paying off today. Indeed, not only have they secured a place for their debut album, “For Your Sins” (2024), on all the relevant playlists of the Irish–British music scene, but the high-energy duo are also touring the European festival circuit, thrilling roaring crowds at events such as Eurosonic Noorderslag and the Glastonbury Festival. Alongside this, they’ve additionally supported giants such as Sting and Bryan Adams at various concerts, proving time and again that the years of hard-earned stage experience are paying off twice over. Now, their second album, “Hate That I Care” (2026), is being released, taking the streamlined grooves of its predecessor to a new level and showcasing the irresistible hooks of their songwriting even more effectively. In so doing, Dea Matrona achieve what many strive for: making female-fronted rock fit for the future. Anyone who doesn’t believe us has a double bill coming up in September that will resonate for a long time to come.
