Dream Wife
Cheerful and humorous on the one hand, raw and rebellious on the other: Dream Wife craft their sound on a whim, paying no heed to the trends and expectations of the streaming era. With the energy of Riot Grrrl and Queercore, the crisp catchiness of contemporary indie rock, and an authentic “no-fucks-given” attitude, the British–Icelandic trio have set stages alight across Europe in recent years, gaining a loyal fanbase in the process. Musically rooted in a clear feminist tradition, the band also comment on the political status quo in Britain, on sexual identities in the 21st century, and on the need for comprehensive empathy in a crumbling patriarchy. Among their creative and intellectual forerunners are David Bowie and Madonna as well as Peaches and Babyshambles – brazen, politically engaged, and refreshingly timeless in terms of sound. While they were initially an insider tip, Dream Wife have won over a wider audience in the European punk scene, at the latest with their first gig here in 2017 and the release of “Social Lubrication” (2023). With new material and a thirst for creative mayhem, they’ll be crashing our stage once again this year.
