Drinking Boys and Girls Choir
With barely a handful of releases under their belt, they are nevertheless among the most influential punks in South Korea today: Drinking Boys And Girls Choir are an institution on the scene, passionately committed to LGBTQ rights and renowned as an excellent live band. These are ideal conditions, then, for giving the stifling conservatism of their hometown of Daegu and the metropolis of Seoul the middle finger while having uncompromising fun. They have been doing this for years in the form of crazy concerts, but albums such as their provocative debut, ‘Keep Drinking’ (2018), and its successor, ‘Marriage License’ (2021), also impressively demonstrate that this trio cannot be stopped by any authority, tradition, or atavism of patriarchy. Skate punk meets pop appeal, energetic vocals meet melodic hardcore, and clear political positioning meets an unyielding desire to disrupt the status quo. With their latest single, ‘History’ (2024), they are back after a long break and are ready to set the stage on fire in Hamburg. Don’t oversleep.
