The producer from Saarbrücken can also see himself as part of the New German Wave, which we here at Reeperbahn Festival have played a key role in shaping. Zeitgeisty lyrics on the one hand; a throbbing sound design that lies somewhere between the noise of shoegaze, the cold urbanity of post-punk, and the sweaty beats of more recent darkwave updates on the other hand, which even two years ago turned singles such as ‘Nie Gesagt’ (2022) and ‘Bett aus Angst’ (2023) into solid club anthems that swallow you up headfirst. Last year saw the release of his debut album, ‘Armselig’ (2024), which reveals an equally thoughtful and laconic wave poetry beneath and behind the introspective melancholy – the German Angst – of Drückeberger. The man knows what he is talking and singing about, but also why he gives his tracks glistening production values and vocals that scream out into the world. It’s the birth of a stylistic language that stands out from thousands and that has been gleefully taken to the next level with the latest EP, ‘Haut und Knochen’ (2025).
