Future Husband
The fact that they are all self-proclaimed music nerds can definitely be heard in the sound of Future Husband. For over ten years now, the quartet from Amersfoort in the Netherlands have been creating soulfully embellished indie odes to love and life, transience, and nostalgia, for which they are appreciated by their fans. But their vibrant mix of spacious psych-funk, polyphonic vocals, and an ever-changing pop appeal has also won over music critics across Europe, to whom Future Husband have never had to pander. In any case, the band’s releases seem like a completely natural, unforced development of their own style, which can fit many moods. So, while singles such as the laid-back convertible soundtrack ‘Ritual’ from their EP, ‘I Love You Forever’ (2022), are unconditionally good humour, the foursome are also well suited to more reflective numbers, such as ‘Six Feet Under’. Perhaps it’s mainly because Future Husband are excellent storytellers, regardless of mood and genre mix, which they impressively proved once again this year with the songs ‘Sunflower Sunset’ and ‘The Party’.
