ildikó
Watch out: German rap is getting not just a new hairstyle and fresh features, but also a radical facelift. Ildikó is on the scene, serving up tracks in DIY mode, sometimes soulful with her heart on her sleeve and drum ‘n’ bass beats under her feet, as in ‘will dich wieder fühlen’. But then again, she’s pissed off by the patriarchy and by slobbering cis-men on the street, as in ‘Guck mich nich an’. Hardcore hip-hop meets the flows of the Stuttgart native, who sends a very personal take on modern German rap over the hills of her hometown and out into the world. Common beat structures are broken up like potato crisps, trap and boom bap are added to measure, and lyrical bells are distributed in double time. Ildikó first showed that she is currently in her workflow with the brutal ‘Mach Platz’ EP in May and – barely two months later – with the EP ‘Dropout’ (2025), on which she celebrates not only rap, but also classic Americana rock and crossover tracks with the violence of a ‘drop in, drop out’. The DIY producer clearly has no desire to commit herself to one style, which can only be an advantage for her future career. Ildikó is already tattooing her name right in the middle of the face of female-dominated German rap.
