Jana Diab
It was her mother who got Jana Diab interested in the world of theatre, Broadway productions, and the musical world at a young age. The singer–songwriter – who was born in Cairo and grew up in London – has therefore viewed expressiveness and authenticity as an integral part of her music from the very beginning of her career. Songs such as the warm, summery ‘Escape Plan’ and the emotionally erupting ‘I’ll Just Say It’ (2024) also emphasise the influence that Jana’s mother and the cultural metropolis of London had and still have on her sound. Lying somewhere between soulful indie rock and bold art pop, her songs always manage the delicate balancing act between honest vulnerability and empowerment. This balance is also needed to survive in the fast-paced music world of 21st-century streams and hypes. But with her EP, ‘Season One’, which was released last year via Interscope, Diab proved that this world doesn’t scare her. On the contrary: As an artist, she rides the wave both in her songs and on the stages of the world. In September, she will be at Reeperbahn for the first time.
