Korobu

Even if it may no longer seem contemporary, the limitation of musical means as a fuel for creativity and stubbornness is just as valid as it was half a century ago. This is the second time that Korobu have provided auditory proof of this, creating an idiosyncratic sound on ‘K For Key’ (2025) that lies somewhere between enraptured krautrock, alien pop arrangements, electronic experiments, and an unusually minimalist post-punk flair – eclectic studio magic at its very best. The songs on the follow-up, ‘Fading | Building’ (2022) – which was released this year – never seem like frayed stylistic aberrations. Quite the opposite: Everything is in place here, every instrumentation is well thought out and yet conducive to a wild trip atmosphere that completely defies simple categorisation. In a long lineage with outsider art rock of the calibre of Roxy Music, Liars, and The Pop Group, Korobu question every expectation and unwaveringly pursue a musical vision of continuous transit.
