As a real-deal globetrotter, Liang Lawrence has soaked up a rich variety of cultural influences throughout her life and has learnt to appreciate them as life-enhancing. Her father's work saw her grow up in California and Kuwait, Malaysia and Japan, New Zealand and the UK, among other places - something that still shapes her openness to diverse musical styles today. During the early pandemic lockdowns, the self-taught singer-songwriter and guitarist spontaneously released singles such as ‘Santa Cruz’ (2020) and ‘Undercover Martyn’ (2022) and quickly amassed thousands of streams on popular platforms before her breakthrough finally came with the debut EP ‘letters to myself’ (2023) and ‘(not) a love song’. Inspired by bands as diverse as Genesis and the Eagles, Cage The Elephant and Bombay Bicycle Club, her warm indie-folk-pop is a shimmering mosaic of fresh ideas, both in terms of lyrical themes and arrangements and style. And last year she proved she’s still got quite a few of these up her sleeve with her second EP ‘What's Dead And Gone’ (2024).
