Move your seats to an upright position, pull your visors down and take a deep breath: Madmess are back with a new album, bringing you the current highlight of their continued impressive output. While their second album “Rebirth” (2021) was still dominated by progressive heavy psych elements, with epic song structures and a metaphysical narrative running from start to finish, the Portuguese trio now sound much more focussed on their new album, with an extra dose of groove. Maybe this is due to the shorter running times of the individual tracks, or thanks to their new line-up, Marco Lima’s arrival on synthesisers and much tighter arrangements. “The Third Coming”(2025) makes one thing abundantly clear: Madmess have freed themselves from all comparisons with bands like Elder or Causa Sui and are now rocking their own style in every way possible - no imitations, no compromises.
