Marissa Burwell

From the personal to the approachable, Marissa Burwell has always cast a wide net in her songs. Even her debut album, ‘Bittersweet’ (2022), shows the Canadian singer–songwriter to be vulnerable and intimate in her lyrics and tone, but also musically accomplished. Part diary entry, part confidential discourse with her audience, her releases become therapeutic listening experiences thanks to warm crooning, cinematic storytelling, and catchy melodies. Her new album, ‘Before The Hour’s Up’ (2025), deals with the expectations many people have of therapy: Can I address all the important issues? Will I find solutions? Will I feel reassured afterwards? Will I find comfort? The longing for closeness and resonance is omnipresent on this album, which Marissa Burwell has realised in collaboration with a number of other artists and which is certainly her most intense work to date. There is thus no doubt that this intimacy will also contribute to a tangible atmosphere at her concert in Hamburg.
