A voice that tells of the highs and lows of life. A sound that oscillates with impressive ease between nostalgic warmth and contemporary clarity. Marla Moya creates music that is characterised by an unerring sensitivity for the right melodies – melodies that inspire hope without sounding cheesy, as in her latest single, ‘Shedding Skin’ (2025), in which the Heidelberg-born singer recounts the upheavals she has experienced as a person and an artist in recent years. She toured the world for years with her former partner David Celia, giving well over 1,000 concerts and playing at the Glastonbury Festival and the BBC Sessions. Processes of self-discovery, painful breakups, and a hopeful outlook towards the future characterised this phase of her life, which she ultimately overcame and turned into a momentum of empowerment. Her debut album, ‘Sanguine Soul’, will be released in November. It’s an introspective and intense journey through psychedelic soft rock à la Fleetwood Mac and Harry Nilsson to modern indie folk with country vibes à la Angel Olsen and Weyes Blood. The perfect soundtrack for summer nights – and for her first performance with us in Hamburg.
