Mino Riot

For some, music is a creative outlet; for others, it is a way of coming to terms with the past and therapy. Mino Riot uses it instead to play her part in bringing about positive change in society. Since her debut EP, ‘Vol. 1’ (2021), the rapper from Saarbrücken has consistently worked on her style, expanded her range of topics, and dealt with deep-seated fears. It’s a process that continued with singles such as ‘Riot ist Liebe’ (2021) and ‘Queerfeminist Cypher’ (2021) and that culminated in the EP ‘Schweben’ (2023). The beats oscillate between modern trap, housey productions such as ‘Unser Body Unser Mood’ (2022), and the introspective electropop number ‘So schön’ (2023). But no matter what Mino Riot is aiming for, the DIY artist succeeds in every variation of her sound with unadapted aplomb and a self-confidence that gives the patriarchy the middle finger while hopefully also inspiring other female rappers to realise their own creative visions.
