Mya Mehmi
Born in Bradford, UK, to Punjabi parents, Mya Mehmi learnt from an early age to stand up for herself and follow her own dreams. At 17, the singer moved to London, where she pursued a career in music and made a name for herself on the local scene as a co-organiser of the LGBTQ club night “Pxssy Palace”. As a trans woman, she began her transition in 2020, and she campaigns for the rights of minorities – a theme that frequently features in her music. Velvety R&B tracks such as “Parivaar (Interlude)” (2023) and “Pain 4 U” (2024) quickly attracted widespread media attention and have been featured by outlets ranging from the Gay Times to the BBC Asian Network. The unanimous verdict: Mya Mehmi ticks all the boxes on the skill scale for gifted singers with a strong DIY ethos. The versatile and likeable artist demonstrates this through more than only her independent approach to writing and producing music: Indeed, her work as a DJ, model, and podcast host is also characterised by a sound understanding of what empowerment can mean in these times. It is with this same confidence that she will take to our stage for the first time this year.
