Playlunch
Like so many bands in recent years, Playlunch formed during the COVID-19 pandemic and, particularly in their early days, built their fanbase mainly online. With their first single, “Soupe Opera” (2023), they went viral on TikTok within a matter of days and followed it up later that same year with their debut album, “Who’s Ready For A Good Time” (2023). The result: late-70s instrumental funk-slack combined with the mixtape aesthetic of early hip-hop heroes and a healthy dose of 2006-style indie bedroom pop. It works! Naturally, lyrical nods to Australian subculture are a must, underpinning the band’s comedic vibe with a constant stream of fresh punchlines. The fact that they managed to secure a feature not only from Julia Gillard and Corey Worthington but also from Dutch ‘Iceman’ Wim Hof is, quite simply, brilliant. Last year saw the release of their second album, “Sex Ed” (2025) – an instant favourite with Australian radio station Triple J, which also marked Playlunch’s successful entry into the North American music market. Now they’re coming to Hamburg for the first time, bringing not only an outrageously good mood but also fresh new material.
