Growing up in a family that always encouraged him to be creative and realise his own aspirations, Sebastian Schub has done precisely that in recent years. After spending a long time putting on impromptu concerts on the streets of the UK, with the videos meanwhile boasting millions of clicks, the moment finally arrived one fine day: at the Spiritual Bar, one of Camden’s renowned open-mic institutions, Schub knocked out an impromptu 30-minute performance. The audience loved it and the multi-instrumentalist with the sonorous baritone voice quickly became a highly sought-after live performer. The singles ‘I Can't Believe We Never Went Out Dancing’ (2024) and ‘Sing Like Madonna’ (2024) went through the roof on relevant streaming platforms and are regularly featured in the playlists that matter. Schub’s talent at combining anthemic singalong hooks with the serene coolness of an Edwyn Collins makes him sound both modern and tradition-conscious - a kind of baroque songwriter pop with versatile arrangements. This year’s debut EP is also entitled “Sing Like Madonna”, and its seven tracks capture a musical vision that this man has pursued with great perseverance.
