Sheebaba
Breaking conventions like old prefabricated buildings while still exuding the grandeur of a vampiric high priest – what sounds like an impossible stylistic balancing act has been Sheebaba's modus operandi for five years. The Luxembourgish-German duo celebrates darkwave with a technoid influence, in which nuances of the latest Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave) repeatedly come to the fore. However, these two take the dystopian drama vibe in songs like ‘Violet’ (2021) or ‘Chambre Rouge’ (2022) up a few notches, achieving maximum impact. The EPs ‘Bruit’ (2022) and ‘Radau’ (2024) penetrate the ear like a theatre play of steam hammer drums and ominously murmuring guitars, before a grandiose immersive mental cinema unfolds between an underground club and a cathedral. Absolutely danceable, impetuously wild and adorned with an incomparable retro-futurism, the Sheebaba sound is as much a product of the past as it is of the future. With fresh pacemakers in track form, this duo is now making its debut in Hamburg, completely redefining the concept of a sound ensemble.
