Jazz as mere “armchair music” for concentrated listening? Not with Sir Bradley. The Hamburg-based collective play a heartily wild, adventurous take on the genre in which influences from indie pop and experimental rock, the avant-garde and unbridled improvisation also come to the fore. This is no coincidence given that the three core members – Maria Rothfuchs, Doro Offermann, and Annette Kayser – had already been turning the Berlin underground scene on its head for years back in the 90s with their band, Seven Kick The Can. Now supported by guest-guitarist Christina Zurhold, singer Catharina Boutari, clarinetist Samantha Wright and trombonist Rainer Sell, the ensemble draw on a rich repertoire of compositions that have accumulated over the years. With a clear queer-feminist and political stance, sensitive to stereotypes yet detached from toxic discourse, Sir Bradley now celebrate jazz as a subversive art form without boundaries – one that should be accessible to all and inclusive of every way of life. They’ll be coming to the Reeperbahn Festival for the first time this year with their latest EP, “Before I Go To Bed” (2025), to share their message with a wildly swinging and grooving audience.
