A certain aesthetic of deceleration is not only omnipresent in South Summit’s sound design, but also an integral focus of their production process. Straddling indie and reggae, alternative rock and dub, the songs from this Australian project are given plenty of space to unfold sonically and atmospherically. Experimentation was indispensable from the outset in the jam-session process, which yielded goose-bump-inducing tracks of the calibre of ‘Runaway’ (2022) at a very early stage. A delight to the ears even instrumentally, this turned out to be just the beginning. For whether it’s a heartbreak anthem like “Changes” on the painfully beautiful EP “Creatures” (2023) or the sweetly hazy summer soundtrack “We Are” (2025) with all its roots influences – here were and are five thoroughbred musicians at work, for whom just about everything comes off with captivating ease. Down Under, they have therefore become a cult band across the board, at the very latest since their debut album “The Bliss” (2024), and have long been known for their highly emotional live shows. Now, with “Run It Back” (2026), their second album is in the starting blocks, set to be released just in time for the best time of the year. So summer is saved – and their gig here is not to be missed.
