Tarta Relena
With the quintessential power of a centuries-old musical tradition, Tarta Relena perform polyphonic choral works that seem to come from another time, another world. Since 2014, the Catalan duo of Helena Ros and Marta Torrella have been illustrating how the musical traditions of Spain, Portugal and Gregorian chant can be interpreted in a modern context. While their debut album “Ora pro nobis” (2019) largely went down very well only amongst connoisseurs, “Fiat lux” (2021) has succeeded in establishing this sacred music not only in southern Europe but worldwide for audiences spanning all generations. Today, Tarta Relena are among the most important representatives of Occitan polyphony in Europe in terms of their reach and stylistic diversity, and on albums such as “És pregunta” (2024) or their current collaboration with Cocanha and Los Sara Fontán, “4132314” (2026), they add elements of avant-folk and art pop, ambient and folktronica to the tradition of Polifonia occitana. So the repertoire of their influences stretches as far as the history from which these sounds were born – from a yesterday that is mercilessly distant, through a fleeting today, to an uncertain tomorrow.
