Tiavo
The screen junkie is not just an homage to the pioneering work of Kraftwerk, not just a wink towards the early 1980s, when computers and private television were increasingly asserting their influence. Indeed, it is also an artistic statement for our time, in which Tiavo act as a collective and musically counteract the black mirrors of the smartphone era with all its social implications. The experimental hip-hop of their first three albums is passé. The year 2022 brought not only new personnel, but also a stylistic change. Surfing new New German Wave from the top down on their fourth album, ‘Absolute Gewinner’ (2024), which was released last year, they put a fresh spin on the genre while at the same time reinventing themselves. Not a matter of course, especially in times of AI-fuelled hypes that are blowing new hot shit into the ether on a daily basis. With a cheeky verve, Tiavo board the ship on this wave and instigate an ambitious mutiny. With the sails set, the next stop is, of course, Hamburg.
