VAVUNETTHA
With great courage and musical talent, Vavunettha uses her songs to address the status quo of our society, telling stories from all walks of life and all cultures. Even on early singles such as “Juwelen” (2023) or “Lakshmi” (2025), the Cologne-based artist with Tamil roots and her producer Christopher Gros demonstrate that they can infuse a thoroughly modern sound with a wide range of emotions and bring it to life accordingly. A laid-back beat somewhere between trap and boom bap, the singer’s deadpan timbre – sometimes slightly autotuned, then clean again with plenty of soul – and, time and again, those wonderfully vibrant melodies. The debut album “Haus” (2024) is already a mandala of indie pop, hip-hop, ska and traditional Tamil music, with which Vavunettha are causing quite a stir in this country. Barely a year later, they followed up with the “Vaikaari” EP (2025), expanding their style to include physical basslines and a distinct danceability, and are now widely regarded as criminally underrated – and not just in the pages of specialist music magazines. So in September, they’ll be heading straight from Cologne to us here in Hamburg with their new singles “Leerlauf” and “8PM” (2026).
