Yakama
A creature of the night, driven by nightmares and longings, vulnerable yet always ready to get up and carry on: Yakama is the sound incarnation of the zeitgeist of Gen Z. Disillusioned by a world that threatens to shatter due to its hypocrisies, the rapper from Saarbrücken provides a safe space for solace and reflection, for euphoria and melancholy. It’s no coincidence that he gave his second album the title ‘Zuflucht’ (2023) two years ago, creating a secret underground classic of the highest order. Stylistically, his tracks are difficult to categorise. Trap beats and introspective lyrics, autotune and cinematic synth carpets, night-owl pop and waking dream poetry blur in Yakama to create productions with a uniqueness that are deeply human and that have too many rough edges for conventional categorisation. Dancing and tears are pre-programmed.
