Alysha Brilla

Music / Folk, Pop / Canada

Presented by: Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA)

While everyone is merely discussing multiculturalism and transnational openness, Alysha Brilla has already finished her playthrough of the entire discourse and simply has it internalised. Her roots are so diverse that we’re just going to leave them unmentioned at this point. One thing is certain though: the Canadian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer has dedicated her life to music. At age 14, she gets hold of her father’s guitar, teaches herself how to play it, writes songs, grows with the tasks. Her self-produced debut “Brilla” (2012) identifies her as a seasoned musician, giving us a glimpse of what is to come. To date, this encompasses another five albums whose sound lies somewhere between ecstatic folk, velvety smooth rock and pop of a thousand different colours, but also frequently bears new age, reggae or even modern R’n’B traditions from all over the world like clouds bear the rain. Her latest album “Circle” (2022) follows this trajectory. What she might be bringing with her this September, however, is a big bag of surprises and a must-see in any case.
